European MMA – The Dawn of a New Age?

By Fig O’Farrell July 19th 2014; the then o2 arena in Dublin was host to an explosion of rejoicing Irish MMA fans as they celebrated five of their countrymen’s victories inside the UFC Octagon.  The Irish invasion was complete as the country that had been on the peripheries of the sports elite promotion for what seemed like an eternity was now a major player in its development. The sense of accomplishment from all involved in the arena that night was palpable. Fast forward 364 days and that feeling was once again tangible in the SS Hydro arena in Glasgow. Although […]

Of his twelve career wins, eleven have come by way of stoppage – ten in the opening round, including eight submissions, and most recently, a powerful knee strike that knocked out Julien Boussuge in just […]

Cage Warriors Fighting Championships have elevated not only Irish stars […]

Cage Warriors 70 Results: Joseph Duffy Shows No Cage Rust, Submits Lapilus In the Third

In the main event of the evening, Donegal’s Joseph Duffy (11-1) backed up all the pre-fight hype and submitted Damien Lapilus (9-4-1) in a triumphant comeback to the sport of MMA for him. The first minute saw both test the waters with Duffy taking the centre, hands low in his boxing stance. Lapilus looked to counter with some kicks as Duffy stalked him to the fence. Duffy looked outstanding, landing shots to the body and mixing it up with kicks as he ducked and dodged Lapilus’ own attempts. Both landed in their own respects but it was Duffy who […]

Cage Warriors 70 Results: Paul Redmond Does as Advertised, Submits Savvidis in the Second

Paul Redmond (10-4) didn’t disappoint in the co-main event of Cage Warriors 70, submitting Alex Savvidis (8-2) inside two rounds with his customary toe hold submission win, and his third of its kind in a Dublin Cage Warriors event. The first round saw Savvidis throw with abandon like a man with nothing to lose. Redmond was more patient though and showed impressive boxing. Redmond eventually got the fight to the mat with three minutes left in the round with a trip. He then landed some ground and pound against the fence with Savvidis doing little to change his own fortunes. […]
