Barao out of UFC 177 Main Event

Renan Barao is out of his rematch with T.J. Dillashaw for the UFC Bantamweight World Championship. The bout was schedule for tomorrow evening. Barao was forced to withdraw due to complications during his weight cut according to ESPN Sportscenter. Barao reportedly had issues cutting down from an estimated 182 lbs in his first fight with Dillashaw. During that match up Dillashaw was noticeably faster than the Brazilian, who was never in the fight. Tachi Palace Fights Bantamweight champion Joe Soto, who was scheduled to make his UFC debut on the prelims against Anthony Birchak, steps in to face Dillashaw on […]

UFC 177 Main Card: TalkingBrawls Staff Picks

What a difference 10 fight picks can make in our overall standings. Last weekend the Ultimate Fighting Championship presented two fight nights, one in Macao, China & the other being in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Keith Fitzpatrick improved his form a bit at 6-4 (Guangyou, Lipeng, Woodley, Bisping, Vick & Holloway), Niall McGrath finished the night a disappointing 4-6 (Woodley, Vick, Holloway & Mein), Ben Kiely likewise finished 4-6 (Woodley, Bisping, Holloway & Leites) & finally I finished up 4-6 (Woodley, Bisping, Vick & Holloway) myself. Therefore our overall standings see Keith extending his lead on top at 81-45, Niall still in […]

UFC 177: What’s On the Line?

Typically, as a UFC fan, you have come to expect a numbered PPV offering to be headlined by a world title fight. UFC 177 is no different in that it’s main event features Bantamweight champion T.J Dillashaw defending his title for the first time against the foe, who he won the belt from in Renan Barao. However, historically UFC PPV’s bolstered fairly solid main cards to support any given main attraction as opposed to the stereotypical boxing card model where the only match up cared for is the main event. Unfortunately this event on paper falls into the latter of […]

UFC 173 Main Card: Official TalkingBrawls Staff Picks

Two weeks on from UFN 40: Brown vs. Silva and there is somewhat of a shakeup in our rankings for the Staff Picks. Keith Fitzpatrick finished up with a decent 4-2 (Palelei, Magny, Philippou & Brown), Niall McGrath finished up with a poor 1-5 (Brown), Ben Kiely came up 50/50 with a 3-3 record (Palelei, Philippou & Brown) and finally I finished up with a disappointing 2-4 (Palelei & Brown). Now our standings have shifted with Keith regaining the top position with an overall record of 37-20, myself slightly behind at 36-21, Niall is still third, but his record […]

UFC 173: What’s On the Line?

As I have mentioned previously on occasion, two weeks is beginning to feel like a long time between two UFC events. Back in the day when Zuffa first acquired the then struggling promotion, two to three months was the average downtime. While one could argue we got our extra helpings of MMA action last weekend with Bellator 120, especially in that it was their first PPV, it just did not feel like a UFC event. Now before you say “isn’t that the point”, allow me to elaborate. Let’s face it, UFC is the distant number one promotion without any legitimate […]
