Paul Felder believes a potential match up with Dustin Poirier would guarantee fight of the night honours. Felder also thinks the upcoming lightweight title bout at UFC 197 between Rafael Dos Anjos and Conor McGregor is positive exposure for the division.
The “Irish Dragon” is coming off a third round submission victory over Darron Cruickshank, last week at UFC fight night Boston. Felder joined Niall McGrath on last week’s Talking Brawl MMA.com podcast to discuss a number of issues, including a potential clash with Dustin Poirier.
“If you want to talk about a fight the UFC can push and sell the hell out of, it’s a guaranteed fight on the night war. They have only ever put me in fights that are expected to be barn burners. I don’t think me and Dustin Poirier would disappoint, for one second. I would totally take that fight, I think it’s a great fight, it gives us both a bump-up in our rankings if we beat each other. I’m coming back up into things and he’s really established himself back at 155. I think it would be a killer fight, I would love to fight him. No disrespect there either. I think we would both touch gloves and throw down.”
Poirier is currently sidelined with a nasal injury but a May return could suit both, if Poirier gets medical clearance. The ATT product defeated Ireland’s Joseph Duffy via unanimous decision at UFC 195.
If twitter is anything to go by, it’s a fight the fans would like to see.

Felder also gave his thought on the UFC 197 title fight between Rafael Dos Anjos and Conor McGregor. The Philadelphia native believes it’s a positive for the lightweight division and one day hopes to throw down against the Dubliner.
“When you have a guy like Conor McGregor who sells the fight and goes in there and performs the way he performs, makes UFC the money and makes himself the money. It’s a business at the end of the day. I heard Eddie Alvarez say when a guy holds the card the way Conor does, he’s going to be able to get them fights. They’ve got to sell PAY-PER-VIEWS, they’ve got to sell tickets and the more money and attention it brings to the division, that’s fine. I already heard in the UFC 197 press conference that he’s going to take everybody out. Well, there is a lot of us out there waiting in line to step up and take that challenge, me being one of them. I not quite there yet, so I’ll put in my time and if I ever get the shot, I’ll sign that contract, no problem. If he wants to see what a real 55’er is like, me and some of my friends can show him.”
Felder said he would preferably like to get back in the Octagon from May, but if a big fight becomes available, he may consider a quicker turnaround.
