Holly Holm’s coach of 16 years Mike Winkeljohn says she’d never turn down a fight with Cris Cyborg. He also believes the new UFC bantamweight champion is the mentally toughest fighter he’s ever coached.
Holm shocked the MMA world at UFC 193 last week with a dominant KO victory over the heavily favoured Ronda Rousey. The former champion was heavily linked with a future bout against Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino, with that now unlikely, talk of Holm vs. Cyborg has been mentioned. Winkeljohn says Holly would never turn down that challenge, or any other.

“I’ll tell you what: Holly has never turned down a fight before in her life. It won’t be on Holly’s terms if she turns down a fight, unless she retires. Holly will fight anybody, anywhere. She’s that tough, mentally. She believes in herself and what she can do. Cris cyborg is just incredible with her strength and with what she can so. I don’t know if she can make the weight at 135lbs, yet. She’s got a lot of holes in her game, a lot of craziness. That girl is so strong, so we’d have to be worried about it, but Holly would fight her in a heart beat,” Winkeljohn told Niall McGrath on last week’s Talking Brawls MMA.com Podcast .
Coach “Wink” believes Holm’s mental strength is one of the major factors that has contributed to her success in both the ring and Octagon. He believes her mental strength is the strongest in Jackson/Wink MMA Academy, a team which boasts a world class roster with Jon Jones, Carlos Condit, Andrei Arlovski amongst their ranks.
“she’s the hardest worker and the strongest mind in the gym. I’ve got some strong people around there, but, she’s there.”
The “Preacher’s Daughter” is one of the most decorated women in combat sports history, adding the UFC bantamweight title to her multiple world boxing titles. She is the first female to win major professional titles in boxing and in the UFC.
“She’s climbed both mountains. Nobody in the world has won both boxing world titles and the UFC championship. She’s the greatest of all-time in combat sports. I’d even go one more and in my mind say she’s the greatest female athlete out there, period.”
