Sarah McMann and Jessica Eye lock horns on Sunday in crucial bantamweight clash at the Mandalay Bay Events Centre in Las Vegas, and it seems that their former friendship has turned sour.
Eye believes McMann has had an issue with her since the Cleveland native signed with the UFC. The team Strong Style fighter says the pair previously cross-trained, and that McMann requested her help for a training camp prior to McMann’s UFC debut against Sarah Kaufman.
“We’ve a very unique story. I’ve trained with her multiple times. I brought her into my Bellator camp, so we became friends and we’ve cross trained multiple times. She contacted me when she was supposed to make her debut against Sarah Kaufmann and said: ‘Jess you are the best of the best in striking, I don’t trust anybody else to get my strike on par other than you. I’d love for you to come in for this camp.”

Eye recalled the exact time when the Olympic silver medalist stopped returning her phone calls. Eye puts it down to the fact she was a 125er with Bellator MMA at the time, and McMann was upset when Eye signed for the UFC as a bantamweight.
“She pulls out of the fight, I get dropped by Bellator. Sean Shelby calls me saying that he wants me in the UFC. I called Sarah multiple times, me and my manager called Sarah multiple times, to be like I respect you as a person but this is a business decision, I need this and I hope you can understand this. She definitely was ‘salty’ and we didn’t talk for years until we were cutting weight when she was fighting Ronda and I was fighting Alexis in Mandalay bay. It’s kind of funny that she was like: ‘I’m sorry I didn’t return your phone calls, I can see why you made the decision you made. I was mad, but it’s your life. Your fighting style is amazing, Jess. I hope I can help you one day and make you better.’ Even back then during the Ronda fight, she was unsure how much she wanted the sport. I feel like she doubts herself a lot more then I do.”

The Cleveland native says McMann reached out to her four weeks ago about participating in a ‘crazy dance-off’ at the weigh-in prior to Saturday’s fight. Eye swiftly declined, declaring war.
“A couple of people that we mutually know said that Sarah was trying to get in touch with you. No offence, but friendship is out the window. I don’t hate her, Ive no problem with her. We can chit-chat and have small talk after the fight but anything you can ask me to do is out the window, no. I found out she wanted to do some crazy dance-off. She wanted to do a twerking video contest, sorry, not my style. Look, this is a war style sport. I don’t need to hate anybody. I just want to get back to a winning basis. It’s just weird!”
