Mark Henry, striking coach for UFC featherweight Frankie Edgar, has put Conor McGregor and the UFC on blast. The New Jersey based coach said featherweight champion, Conor McGregor, is ‘straight out afraid’ of a fight with Frankie Edgar. The famed striking coach also believes the reported rematch against Nate Diaz makes no sense. Henry spoke with Niall McGrath on the Talking Brawls Extra Podcast.
“Well, first of all. It’s expected. I think Conor is straight out afraid of Frankie, he won’t fight Frankie, even off this last injury they called Nate before they called Frankie. You heard off Nate that they were calling him for two months about this fight just incase something happens. Even if Frankie’s groin was ok, they were never going to give this fight to Frankie. It’s typical non-torious, he just keeps running away from Frankie.”
McGregor moved up two weight classes at UFC 194 to fight Nate Diaz at the record breaking event. However according to Henry, the rematch is non-sensical.
“It’s unbelievable, I just don’t understand the rematch. You’re basically a 55er’, you fought a 55er’. The guy was drinking margaritas a week before and he got killed, it wasn’t even close. The UFC always put a spin on it.”
Henry says he doesn’t care what McGregor does as long as the featherweight champion vacates the belt and insisted Frankie has no interest in fighting for an interim title.
“How his Mommy and Daddy (Lorenzo & Dana) give him a rematch, I guess Conor has to win. Conor lost to a guy with no camp. I guess we keep going until Conor gets his way. I just don’t understand it. I don’t really care less where Conor goes. Im just hoping he lets go of the belt, even his coach says he has a hard time making making 145. We’ve seen him walk around looking like death on weigh-in day.”
