A clash between TUF winners has been added to the UFC Fight Night 42 main card in Albuquerque. The UFC has announced that Diego Sanchez will square off against Ross Pearson in the Tingley Coliseum on June 7.

Sanchez defeated Takanori Gomi by split decision in his return to the lightweight division last March. In his next two bouts against Gilbert Melendez and Myles Jury, “The Dream” showed a heightened capacity to eat blows to the head. However, his affinity to remain conscious could not stop the winner of the inaugural TUF competition from being comprehensively beaten on both occasions. He would later argue on twitter that food poisoning sustained from eating beef tartare and quail eggs was the cause of his subpar performance against Jury.
I wasn’t my self last night I sustained Food poisoning from eating a beef tar tar with raw quail egg as a appetizer at dinner

Sanchez goes into this fight with Pearson knowing that his future in the UFC may be in jeopardy. His ‘warrior spirit’ earned him a lucrative Fight of the Night bonus against Melendez and has seen him accrue a large fanbase throughout his MMA career. Despite this, it is difficult to see him remaining on the UFC roster if he were to suffer his third loss in a row in the prestigious promotion. Sanchez will have the advantage of facing the Brit in front of a home crowd in his quest to prove his relevance in the division.
Pearson, who won TUF season nine, is undefeated since returning to 155 lbs. After recording two consecutive TKO wins against George Sotiropoulos and Ryan Coutoure, the Sunderland slugger had no contest bout against recently UFC exile Melvin Guillard. “The Young Assassin” was deemed to have caught Pearson with an illegal knee. “The Real Deal” is known for his prolific stand up which should make for an intriguing duel against Sanchez.
An enticing encounter between former lightweight champion Benson Henderson and Sambo specialist Rustam Khabilov will headline the event. Also on the card, Bobby Voelker takes on Lance Benoist in the welterweight division and the alacritous John Dodson faces a rematch against John Moraga in a flyweight clash. A bantamweight battle between Sergio Pettis and Yaotzin Meza will kick off the main card proceedings.
